White Globe Lily
Calochortus albus
2002

The thickly fringed petals of the Calochortus surround the almost-irradescent stigma. "There is a sylvan and unfettered grace about the Calochortus with nodding flowers which the more radiantly colored Mariposas do not have," says Lester Rowntree, the honorary president of the California Native Plant Society. Imogene Cunningham photographed her when they both were nearly 100 years old.
