Mariposa-Lily
Calochortus supurbus
1998
The arrangement of floral parts in the entire lily family is in multiples of three. The center of this mandala is a three-part stigma surrounded by six anthers. The petals have three hairy glands, a feature which defines this flower, and three brown spots. Beetles and bees pollinate this flower. What we view as a stained glass window, bees see as a landing pattern, flight fuel, and larva food.
