Salal
Gaultheria shalon
1998

The five petals have fused to form a tiny urn that dangles in the fog. Inside, the ten awned anthers form a circle around base of the female stigma; they have opened and their pollen is ripe for dispersal. The stigma, however, is exerted outside the flower. This encourages cross pollination.
