Indian Paintbrush
Castilleja wightii
1998

The three, lower, dark-green petals are joined and the two, white side-petals are also joined producing an image of the druids discovering Stonehenge. The petals aren't the showy parts of the paintbrush - the sepals and bracts are the colorful parts. These attract hummingbirds and, being smarter than bees, they don't need a lot of nectar guides to get to the reward.
