Giant Wakerobin
Trillium chloropetalum
1998
Chloropetalum refers to the green or pale petals. ("Chloros is the color your girlfriend goes when you've poisoned her," says Jock Anderson, emeritus professor of Latin and Greek, UC Berkeley.) The purpose of the color variation in the stamens is a mystery. The beautiful gold color is the pollen. White Trillium have a lemon-like fragrance and maroon Trillium have an off-putting fragrance that may be attractive to flies or beetles.
